Copyright Concerns / DMCA Takedown
Last updated October 28, 2026
How Cooki handles recipes
Cooki helps home cooks plan meals around recipes they care about. Some recipes on Cooki are uploaded by users; others are imported from publicly accessible sources on the open web. When a recipe is imported, we keep a clear, prominent link back to the original source and the creator's handle whenever the source provides one. We do not host video, audio, or original photography from those sources — only the recipe text and metadata, plus a thumbnail when one is publicly available.
If you're a creator and want something removed
If you believe content on Cooki infringes a copyright you own or are authorized to represent, send a takedown notice to our designated agent:
Designated DMCA agent
dmca@cooki.app
We aim to acknowledge complete notices within two business days.
What to include
Under section 512(c)(3) of the DMCA, a valid takedown notice must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on their behalf.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed (or a representative list, if multiple works are covered).
- Identification of the material on Cooki that you want removed, with enough detail for us to locate it — the recipe URL on cooki.app is ideal.
- Your contact information (name, address, phone number, email).
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Counter-notification
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake — for example, the material is yours, or you have a license to use it — you may submit a counter-notification to the same address. Counter-notifications must include the elements listed in section 512(g)(3) of the DMCA.
Repeat-infringer policy
In appropriate circumstances, Cooki will terminate the accounts of users who are determined to be repeat infringers. We log valid takedown notices and apply this policy consistently.
Creators: a faster path
If you found one of your recipes on Cooki and want credit (not removal), you can connect your social handle in your profile and click “Is this your recipe? Claim it” on the recipe page. Once your handle is connected, the claim is auto-approved and you show up as the verified creator across Cooki.
